Meaning "A Beautiful Woman", the name Lepa Vida was inspired by the Aleksandrinke of Trieste & Gorizia, ladies who nursed children in Alexandria, Egypt. The winery itself was among the first few of the country, after Slovenian separation from Yugoslavia in 1989. 100% family ran, Lepa Vida is a boutique winery with low yields and delicious wines that leaves its visitors coming back each year for more.
This Slovenian white varietal wine has a golden orange color to it, due to 12 day maceration on skins. Considered an unusual approach to white wine making, whereas the Slovenes would disagree: Orange wine is extremely popular in the country as it was a normal technique to prolong skin contact in the area, as well as in neighboring Friuli. oOo has luscious citric flavors with persistent body and depth from the local grapes of Malvasia & Rebula (Ribolla Gialla).
Mi, meaning "us", is also the initials of Lepa Vida producers Matija & Irena: Their goal with this was to create a wine that they themselves would love, and used their two favorite varieties: Istrian Malvasia & Sauvignon Blanc. The only challenge was finding the perfect balance between the two, where the solution was a 70% Malvasia, 30% Sauvignon cuvee leaving the wine as full-bodied, powerful, with touches of apple, mango, and herbs. A wonderful representation of Slovenian family winemaking.
Vi, meaning "you all", was a wine inspired by the initials of the producer's children, Vito & Iza, and was meant to be a wine that could be enjoyed by everyone. Chardonnay grapes were then picked to see how well they adapt to the local Vipava terroir, followed by the purchase of French oak barrels. The result was an excellent Burgundy style full-bodied white wine with creamy, buttery and vanilla flavors with only lactic acidity. Thoroughly enjoyable.
